100 Days of Summer: Get to Know No. 51 Arlington Hambright

first_imgWe’re almost to the halfway point of our countdown. With No. 51, let’s turn our attention to the Cowboys’ sole offensive lineman from the 2017 class. How he got to OSUWhen National Signing Day 2017 ended, the Cowboys had only secured one offensive lineman for the class. Former OL coach Greg Adkins had struck out in terms of landing (or holding on to) any high school commits. The one lineman he was able to secure before his dismissal was a 6-foot-5, 305-pound junior college tackle.Belleville High School (Ypsilanti, Mich.) product Arlington Hambright took the JUCO route after playing defensive end as a prep. Hambright played on both sides of the line at Garden City Community College. He was the Broncbusters’ starting left tackle and helped them complete an undefeated season and claim an NJCAA National Championship.AdChoices广告A highly-ranked JUCO prospect, Hambright originally committed to Toledo but re-opened his recruiting last summer. He chose Oklahoma State over offers from the likes of NC State, East Carolina, Memphis and Houston. On signing day, Mike Yurcich talked about what the coaching staff saw in Hambright.“Arlington is very athletic and has a tremendous upside,” said Yurcich. “We feel like he fits in well with what we are trying to do. He is coachable, has good flexibility and good change of direction. He has played both sides of the ball and moves well.”What he’s done in StillwaterA 2017 signee, Hambright took part in spring practice and appear in the spring game.Role in 2017With incoming Cal grad transfer Aaron Cochran’s decision to come to Stillwater, Hambright will likely be relegated to competition for a backup role. He’s in that group with Teven Jenkins, Dylan Galloway and Shane Richards, all fighting for a backup role at either tackle spot. He could even fill in at guard if needed.Noteworthy Stats and HighlightsRanked the No. 34 JUCO prospect in the 2017 class by Rivals. Was part of a dominant offensive line at GCCC that rushed for 194.8 yards per game and averaged 28.7 points. 100 Days of Summer: Get to Know No. 1 Jalen McCleskey

first_imgWhile you’re here, we’d like you to consider subscribing to Pistols Firing and becoming a PFB+ member. It’s a big ask from us to you, but it also comes with a load of benefits like ad-free browsing (ads stink!), access to our premium room in The Chamber and monthly giveaways. The other thing it does is help stabilize our business into the future. As it turns out, sending folks on the road to cover games and provide 24/7 Pokes coverage like the excellent article you just read costs money. Because of our subscribers, we’ve been able to improve our work and provide the best OSU news and community anywhere online. Help us keep that up. We’re counting down hours not days to the kickoff of the 2017 football season. No. 1 on our countdown is Jalen McCleskey, one of the leading returning pass catchers in the Big 12 and one opposing defenses can’t overlook. How he got to OSUThe three-star prospect from St. Paul’s (Covington, Louisiana) was looked over by most schools because of size. At 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, McCleskey wasn’t exactly an imposing figure. But the son of former NFL defensive back J.J. McCleskey, had the speed (4.40 40-yard time) and the work ethic to be a playmaker at the next level.Luckily for all involved, Mike Gundy has a knack for mining diamond-in-the-rough wideouts and not only extended McCleskey his only Power 5 offer, but trusted the speedster to play immediately as a true freshman both on offense and as a punt returner from Day 1.AdChoices广告What he’s done in StillwaterSince his arrival in 2015, McCleskey has shown both that speed and work effort mentioned earlier, plus another attribute that Mike Gundy didn’t necessarily predict. He’s got stick’em gloves. As a true freshman — in an albeit smaller sample size — McCleskey caught 29 catches on 32 targets. That’s a ridiculous 90.6 percent catch rate.In 2016, as the Cowboys’ leader in caught passes (73), he hauled in 75.3 percent of his 97 targets. Those are Justin Blackmon numbers from an efficiency standpoint. McCleskey’s also worked on his body during his time in Stillwater. He’s never going to be Blackmon or Dez type physically but tell that to the side-shuffling line judge or the scoreboard.Role in 2017McCleskey enters his junior season as the undisputed starter at the slot position. He’s one of a half dozen or so playmakers who could go off at any time. But even with that depth and talent OSU boasts at receiver, McCleskey could be up for more targets in 2017.With the departure of Blake Jarwin and Zac Veatch, who combined for 36 targets in 2016, we expect the role of the Cowboy Back to decrease, at least slightly, in favor of 10 personnel (one RB, four WRs) or even 00 personnel (five-wide) looks. With a need to keep defenses honest in the middle of the field, guys like McCleskey and Dillon Stoner become invaluable weapons.Noteworthy stats and highlightsMcCleskey grabbed a career-high 11 catches twice in 2016. He recorded three 100-plus yard games last year, as well, including four catches for 109 yards and two scores against Texas. He also returns as the Cowboys’ featured punt returner and has one return touchdown against Texas Tech in 2015.And he can even catch a deep ball or two if need be. He showed that here in his (and Mason Rudolph’s) first game inside Boone Pickens Stadium in 2015.Advanced wide receiver stats come courtesy of Bill Connelly and Football Study Hall.last_img read more

England are lucky to have finished second in their group – otherwise they would have to face Brazil in the quarter-finals. Instead, they would face Sweden.Should they defeat Sweden, they will then face the winner of Russia vs Croatia in a semi-final tie. We respect Rishabh Pant but won’t focus on him alone: Stephen Fleming

first_imgWe respect Rishabh Pant but won’t focus on him alone: Stephen FlemingIPL 2019: Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming said his team must focus on their own strength and added that finding a weakness in Delhi Capitals in one thing and using it well on the field would be another challenge.advertisement Indo-Asian News Service New DelhiMarch 25, 2019UPDATED: March 25, 2019 17:49 IST Rishabh Pant began IPL 2019 with a bang, scoring 78 off 27 deliveries against Mumbai Indians. (IPL Photo)HIGHLIGHTSCSK coach Stephen Fleming said his team can’t overplan only for Rishabh PantFleming said he wants Dhoni and Rayudu to play with freedomDelhi Capitals host Chennai Super Kings at the Feroz Shah Kotla on TuesdayDelhi Capitals star Rishabh Pant might have played a stellar role on Sunday to win them the opening game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, but Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming made it clear that overplanning keeping one player in mind wouldn’t help the team.”You have to respect so many players in the tournament and he is one of them. But there are others as well. Have to be sure you don’t overplan. He is one of the great young prospects in Indian cricket. But there is Shikhar Dhawan, Colin Ingram, captain Shreyas Iyer. One thing is to find a weakness, but have to use it well. You must focus on own strength,” he explained.Asked if the conditions in Ferozeshah Kotla will help the Chennai side as CSK too banks on spin on their home ground in Chepauk, Fleming said: “The last game was difficult for the batters. The bowlers excelled. The fact that we use spinners is one or our tactics, we have seaming bowlers as well to exploit situations. We will spend time to look at the conditions. Getting the combination right is important.”While everyone has spoken about how M.S. Dhoni is in the last stretch of his career, Fleming said he didn’t wish to get into the debate and he primarily wanted to see MS at the 2019 World Cup.”I certainly was hoping he gets through to the World Cup and that he will. Haven’t had discussions about what happens after that. I would want him to carry on for CSK till the end of this cycle. He is training well, playing well and enjoying himself. That is important,” the coach said.advertisementFleming was all praise for senior spinner Harbhajan Singh and said that the off-spinner will definitely be considered for the game against DC.”He was fantastic in the first game. Experience is important. There are a lot of left-handers in the Delhi side. That was discussed in the RCB game as well. We will look to consider that. It is about the skill sets we have. It was a compliment to not having to stick to the overseas quota. We will consider it again tomorrow,” he said. While Ambati Rayudu is playing the IPL, he definitely has his sights on the no.4 spot in India’s World Cup team. But Fleming said that the CSK opener should look to play freely.”He doesn’t have to be conservative with us. Loved him running down the wicket and hitting the fast bowler over the top (against RCB) and that is what we want to see,” he said. Also Read | Rishabh Pant breaks MS Dhoni’s record for fastest IPL fifty vs Mumbai IndiansAlso Read | Took my chances and it came off: Rishabh Pant after match-winning knock vs MIAlso Read | Important to groom Rishabh Pant well as he is the next big thing: Yuvraj SinghFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Polish Olympic gold medallist roots for UN school feeding programmes in Africa

Acting as an ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Poland’s quadruple Olympic gold medallist race-walker Robert Korzeniowski has called on his fellow sportsmen to use their international profiles to put the plight of Africa’s hungry children on the international agenda.“Many of our African friends suffer from malnutrition, and they need celebrities like us to use our high profiles to act as partners for worthwhile projects,” Mr. Korzeniowski said in Bamako, capital of Mali, at the end of a four-day visit to the drought-hit Mopti area, where he saw WFP’s school feeding programme.“Let us awaken our consciences and those of all those around us, our family, friends, fans and countrymen,” he added. “Sadly, not everyone is fortunate enough to have access to a proper education and to enjoy the benefits of sport, personal fulfilment and an opening onto the world at large.”The race walker, who holds the world record in the 50-kilometre race, recently joined WFP’s growing list of celebrity partners.WFP’s free lunches serve as an incentive for local parents to keep their children in class. In several cases, the children’s parents use WFP rations to cook the school lunches themselves in the canteen.Mr. Korzeniowski learnt firsthand that basic education offers Mopti’s children their only hope of escaping a vicious cycle of drought and soil erosion that barely allows families to subsist off small communal plots of land.“I have been amply rewarded for what I have put into the project by the approving looks in the eyes of the proud parents as I met their smiling children in their school playgrounds,” he said. “For them, going to school means a square meal, and therefore life.” read more

UN reports reveal mixed progress on efforts to end child refugee detention

“This strategy is an important step in ending the counter-productive use of detention, and we welcome the encouraging progress made in these two years,” Volker Türk, Assistant High Commissioner for Protection at the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said today in a news release. However, noting that asylum-seekers and refugees accounted for 17 per cent of all people detained for immigration-related purposes in 2015 in the countries, up from 12 per cent in 2013, he added: “Too many refugees and asylum seekers, including children, are forced to stay in detention centres when they should be in an environment where they can get the information, support, privacy and access to their legal rights.” The two reports issued as part of the agency’s global strategy, Beyond Detention 2014-2019, which is supporting governments end detention of asylum-seekers and refugees, include a baseline report that uses data compiled from 2013 and a mid-216 progress report. On the strategy’s first goal: ending child detention, encouraging progress was reported. This includes adoption of protective laws and policies to limit or rule out child detention, prioritized processing of the asylum claims of children, enhanced access to age appropriate information in a child-friendly format and increased attention to the process of appointing qualified guardians. According to UNHCR, these measures contributed to an overall decrease of 14 per cent in the total number of children detained across the 12 countries in 2015 as compared to 2014, when all the countries detained children for immigration-related purposes. By the end of 2015, two countries had also stopped detaining asylum-seeking children. However, ensuring referral to alternatives to detention, the second goal of the global strategy, has proved more of a challenge. “Officials in most of the focus countries still rarely or never consider alternatives in each individual case before detaining,” said the agency in the news release. “Asylum-seekers and refugees still [face] the risk of indefinite detention in one-third of the focus countries due to the absence in law of a maximum time limit in detention,” it added, noting moderate progress on the final goal – improving detention conditions. The report further revealed that in a majority of the 12 countries, asylum-seekers are still penalized for irregular entry or stay and that they may be detained together with people suspected or convicted of a crime. The agency also said that while it is too early to assess the medium and long-term impact of the roll-out of the strategy, the first assessment indicates emerging trends which could herald changes in coming years in immigration detention policies. “The progress results will form the basis for further dialogue with all stakeholders and to help identify and remedy shortcomings and support policy making, particularly in reception and alternatives to detention,” it noted. The five-year strategy was launched in June 2014 and has been rolled out in Canada, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Zambia. The 12 countries were chosen based on criteria, including regional and thematic diversity, size and significance of the problem, and prospects of progress in the initial roll-out period. Each government has established a national action plan to help address change and implement the strategy. read more

Snowdens new Supervisor software for geologists features substantial upgrades

first_imgSnowden says it “has taken geostatistical modelling to a new level with the release of Supervisor version 8 (V8). As the name V8 suggests, the software suite has the power to supercharge your mining operation!” With ever increasing amounts of data available to geologists, it has become much more difficult to adequately assess all the data in a time and cost efficient manner.  Snowden recognised that a quantum change was needed to provide adequate geostatistical modelling support to this changing world. By re-developing Supervisor on a new platform and adding several new features, it provides the user with a substantial functional upgrade. The software suite consists of three underlying modules. The Analysor V8 module allows quick and easy preliminary statistical analysis and visualisation. It’s about finding relationships between elements and domains such as rock type and oxidation.Snowden says “the Visor V8 module is the undisputed world leader in finding the 3D orientation of the ore body and grade continuity. This is a crucial input property to the actual estimation procedure. Should this be incorrect, it may render the entire estimation useless. The Maximisor version 7 (V7) module deals with the uncertainty of reserve estimation. Maximisor provides multiple equally probable answers or scenarios from which to choose the most appropriate for your project. Maximisor V8 will be released in 2012.Together, these modules form what has over the last 10 years become a benchmark in geostatistical modelling globally. Snowden won the Exporter Category for the WA Information Technology and Telecommunications Awards (WAITTA) for Supervisor 7 in 2010.last_img read more

Greg Gianforte (R-MT), designates “9-8-8” as the universal telephone number for the national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline system, which currently operates through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Veteran’s Crisis Line.“This bill will save lives. When your house is on fire, you don’t have time to look up the fire department’s phone number—that’s why we have 9-1-1. In the same way, you should know what number to dial when a friend, a loved one, or you yourself are experiencing a mental health crisis,” Moulton said. “This is a major milestone on the road to where mental healthcare in America is just part of healthcare, period. It’s one part of ending the stigma around mental health and making Americans healthier and stronger.”Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) said: “I am truly honored to lead on this bill to get a three-digit, easy-to-remember, dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Suicide hits close to home with an average of two Utahns taking their life every day. This dialing code is an essential step in providing critical resources to those in emotional distress.”Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) said: “As a former chief psychiatric nurse, I have spent my career advocating for more accessible mental health resources in our communities. In my home state of Texas, thousands of lives are tragically lost to suicide every year – averaging a life lost every two hours. This bipartisan effort to designate a three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline will simplify access to these resources for our constituents in their times of need,”Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-MT) said: “Our nation faces an epidemic of suicide, and Montanans tragically are all too familiar with it. This bipartisan bill provides an essential resource for anyone facing a mental health crisis and helps our communities grow healthier and stronger.”The bill Moulton and Stewart introduced today builds upon the National Suicide Hotline Improvement Act. Rep. Stewart, an Air Force veteran, introduced that bill, which was passed and signed into law, last year. It called for a study to determine the best three-digit dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The FCC released the study last week recommending “9-8-8” as the best three-digit dialing code for the lifeline.Today’s bill, The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, assigns the FCC’s recommended number as the easy three-digit dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. This legislation authorizes states to collect a fee limited to supporting local crisis call centers that are affiliated within the national network or enhancements of such services. This allows states to fund the suicide hotline services similar to that of existing emergency services. In addition, this legislation sets a deadline of one year for the FCC to complete the nationwide upgrade of the legacy switches to support 9-8-8. It also requests a report from the FCC to determine the feasibility of providing an automatic dispatchable location for 9-8-8 calls. In June, Moulton spoke publicly for the first time about managing Post Traumatic Stress in an effort to start a national conversation about mental health care. At the time, he proposed creating a three-digit hotline, and he partnered with Rep. Stewart on today’s bill to deliver on that promise.Moulton also called for making mental health check-ups a requirement for members of the Armed Forces. He successfully added an amendment to the House’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act that would require every service member who saw combat to get a mental health checkup within 14 days of leaving the battlefield, and an annual mental health checkup for every member of the Armed Forces. The goal is to create a culture where mental health check ups are as routine as going to the doctor’s office for an annual checkup, or visiting a dentist for a teeth cleaning. Members of the House and Senate will meet in conference to negotiate a final NDAA next month. The following organizations have also endorsed the legislation: American Association of Suicidology, Association for Behavioral Health & Wellness, Behavioral Health Link, Behavioral Health Response, Centerstone, Connections Health Solutions, The Jason Foundation, Kevin & Margaret Hines Foundation, National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, The National Association of County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Directors, The National Association for Rural Mental Health, Now Matters Now, InSight Telepsychiatry, and RI International.Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook. 49 Voices Mao Tosi of Anchorage

first_imgThis week we’re hearing from Ma’o Tosi in Anchorage. Tosi is a property manager at the Northway Mall and a community advocate.Listen NowMa’o Tosi of Anchorage (Photo by Wesley Early, Alaska Public Media – Anchorage)TOSI: When we first moved here, we ended up moving into a family’s house in Eagle River and we stayed there for about a month. That was my first experience around just white people. It was very uncomfortable for me and my older brother that at Gruening Middle School when it was lunchtime, I would just go sit in the bathroom stall. It was funny, one time I went and sat in there and I realized my brother was right next to me and so it’s just how uncomfortable we felt.We ended up moving into Mountain View, and it almost seemed like we moved back into San Diego. Mountain View is the most diverse neighborhood in the country. And one of the best things about this diversity and us being all different is to try to find the commonalities that we have. Maybe your kid now is on the basketball team with my kid. So there are always interests that can bring us together. There’s always something. The further away from Anchorage we go the less diverse we are. And if that is so, then it’s very important that I always take teams of diversity into rural communities, into the Valley, into all of Alaska to show them what we look like… but if this is their first experience with a Sudanese, a Samoan, a Hmong, then let it be the best one. Because if this is the only hour they get to see us, then if it is a good one, they will be open to the next experience. Not every Polynesian, not every Samoan, is going to be an NFL player. I would like to see more judges and doctors that are Polynesian, that are Sudanese, that are black, that are of our community. So that hopefully if they succeed, they don’t forget where they came from and can come back and do what they can.last_img read more

American Bazaar Conclave 2014 Opportunities and Challenges in Information Technology in US

first_imgAmerican Bazaar Online’s first ever conclave in Bangalore (India) successfully concluded on 1 February, dispelling myths related to tight visa restrictions and limited opportunities available in US post-recession, especially in the IT sector.Ever since the late 2007 US recession, there has been some insecurity among Indians, regarding the opportunities in America. And the recent law suit on Infosys for visa fraud amounting to $34 million (₹210.38 crore) fine had escalated fears among the techies.Despite reports of US government’s protectionist measures related to implementation of additional taxes on companies outsourcing jobs to foreign countries and formation of new immigration laws (awaiting approval), there is enough encouragement for technically qualified immigrants (with US graduate degree) to avail citizenship, as well as open their start-up firms in the American shore, said experts, who presided the AB Conclave 2014.One of the eminent global speakers, Dr. Satyam Priyadarshy, founder, Reignite Strategy, Virginia vividly shed light on the future of Information Technology and the opportunities available in the USA.According to figures, cited by Dr. Priyadarshy, indigenous freelance workers in the USA amounted to a mere 17-percent of the total population. It is touted to reach 40 percent in the next decade and with 18 percent baby boomers set to retire in 2020, there is a dearth of workers in America related to cyber security, social media, application development (for smart devices) and cloud computing.Dr. Priyadarshy revealed that there is an estimated requirement of more than 350,000 IT professionals (designers, testing (quality), administration and more) in cyber security and big data (database storage management).Apart from computing-based technology, there is also a need for IT professionals in the field of medicine, said, Jason Harmon, CTO and founding partner, Get Real Health, a pioneer organization in specializing in patients engaging and custom care solutions.Another star attraction of the AB Conclave 2014 was the Murthy Law Firm founder Sheela Murthy and team. Touted as one of the world’s leading legal consultancy company, they detailed the intricacies of the US immigration Visa (H1 B and L1) procedure.AB Conclave 2014 was also presided by top technology leaders, giving insights on the skill requirements for the future technology challenges. They include SAP Labs India MD, Anirban Dey, Shameer Shariff (founder and CEO, Impelsys Inc.), Nagarjuna S (vice-president, global immigration management services, Wipro Technologies), Robinder Sachdev (founder and president, Imagindia), Manoj Sreenilayam (vice-president, Service delivery, Get Real Health) and Mohammad Yaseen (Director, Capgemini).last_img read more

Bill Gates Says These Tech Innovations Will Change the World

first_imgFebruary 28, 2019 Bill Gates has made his fortune, and has given much of it away, thinking about the endeavors that will make our the world a healthier, connected and equitable place. Recently, the MIT Technology Review asked the Gates Foundation and Microsoft co-founder to share the inventions and technologies that he believes will effect real change this year and beyond. Some of the advances he offered up include projects such as Dactyl, which teaches robots how to develop fine motor skills like flipping a block in its hand, and work being done to develop machines that could pull carbon dioxide from the air to lessen the effects of climate change.Given his interest in improving conditions around the world, it’s unsurprising that most of the innovations on Gates’s list focus on wellness.Related: Bill Gates Made These 15 Predictions Back in 1999 — and It’s Scary How Accurate He WasSome of these include green toilets that can get rid of waste and treat water at the same time, plant-based meat alternatives that are developed in the lab, customized cancer vaccines tailored to an individual patient’s needs and a capsule with a mini microscope attached to it that would allow physicians to check kids and infants for gut issues without having to use anesthesia.Looking even further ahead to the future, Gates shared what we wanted to see on his potential list 20 years from now.“I would hope to see technologies that center almost entirely on well-being. I think the brilliant minds of the future will focus on more metaphysical questions: How do we make people happier? How do we create meaningful connections? How do we help everyone live a fulfilling life?” Gates wrote. “I would love to see these questions shape the 2039 list, because it would mean that we’ve successfully fought back disease (and dealt with climate change). I can’t imagine a greater sign of progress than that.” Register Now » Attend this free webinar and learn how you can maximize efficiency while getting the most critical things done right.center_img 2 min read Free Webinar | Sept 5: Tips and Tools for Making Progress Toward Important Goalslast_img read more

AppraiserLoft Closes Amid Rumors Departures

first_imgAppraiserLoft Closes Amid Rumors, Departures Mortgage appraisal company, “”AppraiserLoft””:www.appraiserloft.com/, has closed its doors following numerous executive departures, rumors of non-payment to appraisers, and an ongoing lawsuit brought against the company’s CEO regarding alleged activities unrelated to the company. According to numerous trade publications, AppraiserLoft made employees aware of the shutdown last week in advance of its official closure.[IMAGE]Calls to AppraiserLoft’s corporate offices were directed to a recording that clearly said, “”At this time, we are no longer accepting new orders.”” Current clients are instructed to contact the company via its help-desk e-mail account, and the full social media presence of AppraiserLoft appears to have been deactivated. Additionally, _Reverse Mortgage Daily_ reported that the San Diego, California-based company has been shuttered after being unable to locate a buyer for its platforms. In August, AppraiserLoft’s CEO Aman Makkar resigned, and Shane Copeland, formerly a sales executive with the organization, was named interim CEO. AppraiserLoft made headlines again during September when news broke that Copeland would move on to valuations company “”Kirchmeyer & Associates””:www.kirchmeyer.com/ as its VP of national sales; Michele Chochrek, previously AppraiserLoft’s VP of national sales, also announced her departure to join Kirchmeyer & Associates as a national account executive shortly after Copeland’s hiring was confirmed. As summer ended, more negative news surrounding AppraiserLoft surfaced after _National Mortgage News_ reported that the company was delaying payments for some of its appraisers. Patrick MacFarland, an Iowa-based appraiser, spoke[COLUMN_BREAK]to _National Mortgage News_ in August regarding the accounting issues with AppraiserLoft, stating that the entity currently owed him an estimated $1,500. He added that, during June, the company was behind in paying him nearly $6,500, a portion of which dated back to invoices filed over six months prior.””Their website says that they pay appraisers 30 days after an assignment is completed and in my experience, that never occurred. So they pay me, but it’s never been as prompt as they promised and it’s never been without me haggling considerably,”” MacFarland said of his recent experience with AppraiserLoft.Meanwhile, Makkar’s personal troubles continued as he worked to resolve a lawsuit brought against him by attorneys operating as the receivership for MAK 1 Enterprises Group, LLC. The plaintiff filed on claims that Makkar had knowingly participated as an investor and investment recruiter in alleged Ponzi scheme organization, MAK 1. Makkar was thusly required to pay back $1.4 to $1.5 million (the totals represent a $100,000 penalty that can be applied for late payment) to the receivership as part of the so-called “”clawback claim”” that targets the return of invested money to those who were defrauded. As of July 9, the “”U.S. District Court of Southern California’s””:www.casd.uscourts.gov/ latest report on the lawsuit indicated that Makkar was in default of the scheduled payback agreement, which was set into motion in February. Statements from the court indicated that, at that point, Makkar has only contributed $425,000 of the total amount; however, speaking to _National Mortgage News_, Makkar said during August that the matter had come to resolution under a private agreement. Elaborating, Makkar said, “”Certain things are filed as a matter of formality and there’s a lot of stuff, a lot of settlements that go on in the background that do not get posted because they’re called confidential settlements.”” Interestingly, on October 7, the receivership for MAK 1 initiated its first interim distribution to investors whose claims had been approved, and the amount paid to the related individuals was made from a total distribution of $1.5 million, which is the dollar amount Makkar was required to fulfill as a defendant. The compensation for investors will be paid out in equal pro rata shares of 10 percent on each claim. Mohit Khanna, MAK 1’s principal, is currently incarcerated for his fraudulent actions, along with MAK 1’s former attorney, Gus Bujkovsky.
