Minecraft is on nearly every system under the sun, but it arrived a bit late on Nintendo’s Wii U. Released last December, the Wii U edition of the wildly popular franchise lacked anything that made it distinctly “Nintendo.” That’s going to change next week when the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is released. The DLC pack will have a world inspired by games like Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and Super Mario Sunshine. The pack also contains over 40 Super Mario-themed skins for your blocky avatar. This means that you can roam around the world as Luigi, Princess Peach, Wario, Bowser, the Koopalings, and of course, Mario himself. Even the game’s mobs have been given the Mario treatment. Instead of Creepers and Zombies, players will have to fend off mobs of Hammer Bros. and Dry Bones.Right now, the Wii U edition of Minecraft is only available as a digital download for $30. A retail version of the game is set to be released on June 17 for the same price. Best of all, it will come with the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack already included on the disk. Those who don’t already have the game may want to wait until this version is released so that they can have the full experience.Minecraft has inspired people to create some truly imaginative things over the years, so it should be interesting to see what gamers conjure up with this Mario-themed content. If anyone is lacking ideas, may I suggest something inspired by Dr. Mario? Get to it, gamers!
