An enraged Van Nuys father fatally stabbed his daughter’s 27-year-old boyfriend after the man professed his love and said he wanted to take the 14-year-old girl to Mexico, police said Wednesday. Efrain Ramos, 38, and two others were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of murder after a weeklong investigation into the slaying of Anselmo Sanchez-Reyes. “It’s a very interesting case,” LAPD homicide detective Mike Coffey said. “It started with a body that we didn’t even know who the person was. As soon as we found out his identity, it quickly mushroomed into quite a complex case.” The victim’s body didn’t have any identification when it was found Feb. 12 on a North Hollywood street. The victim’s brother told police Sanchez-Reyes often drank with two friends in his apartment building, but those people denied even knowing him. “We knew they weren’t being truthful with us,” Coffey said. “They agreed to come to the station with us. En route and at the station, they decided to tell the truth.” One of the friends, Maria Ramos, told police Sanchez-Reyes was dating her 14-year-old niece, and that neither she nor her brother, Efrain Ramos, were happy with the situation. Efrain Ramos has a criminal record, including an outstanding felony warrant for being a parolee at large. Police arrested him Feb. 16 on the outstanding warrant and interviewed family members and others living in the apartment. Several people told police the same story: On Feb. 12, Sanchez-Reyes came over to the Ramos’ apartment and professed his love for Ramos’ daughter, saying he wanted to take the girl to Mexico. He and Efrain Ramos fought, and Sanchez-Reyes was stabbed multiple times. “Efrain’s sister, Maria, and a friend, Dolores, helped take the body from the house to a vehicle,” Coffey said. “The people inside the house never saw Anselmo again.” Sanchez-Reyes’ blood-spattered pickup truck was found abandoned Friday in Stockton, along with a knife, Coffey said. They are being transported back to Los Angeles, where forensics experts will analyze them. Efrain Ramos, Maria Ramos, 29, and Dolores Gomez, 27, were arrested on suspicion of murder. Efrain Ramos is being held without bail, while the two others are being held on $1 million bail each. “As a homicide detective, one of the main things you want to do is identify the victims and try to backtrack their steps and see where they are,” Coffey said. “That’s exactly what happened in this case.” Josh Kleinbaum, (818) 713-3669 [email protected] 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
