Chris Farley left this incarnation 21-years ago yesterday, December 18th. The comedian and actor is still remembered by fans today thanks to his infamous skits on Saturday Night Live, and his roles in films like Tommy Boy and Beverley Hills Ninja. Adam Sandler shared a musical clip from his recent Netflix special to his Facebook in remembrance of his old friend on Tuesday, which features the comedian playing his guitar and singing quite the lyrical tribute to Farley. The performance is included on ADAM SANDLER: 100% FRESH, which arrived onto Netflix back on October 23rd. Sandler has always been known for incorporating his musical abilities and love for silly rock songs into his comedy bits, but his tribute to Farley is one of the more memorable performances shared so far. Sandler starts the song by informing the audience that it’s a very special one and means a lot to him and the comedy community.Sandler and an accompanying pianist begin the rock ballad following some lovely opening licks from his Fender Stratocaster and establishes Farley as the lyrical subject almost immediately. He spends the next six minutes sharing stories of his late friend and describing him as a “One Man Party”, while a video tribute containing highlights from Farley’s career begins to play on the screens behind the stage. Some of the memories of Farley revisited in his lyrics range from his friend’s worries over his substance abuse, to how he used to play pranks on SNL castmate David Spade. Sandler also references the last time he and his friends all hung out with Chris was during Tim Meadows‘ wedding party, and emotionally admits in the lyrics that “Nothing was harder than saying goodbye, Except watching Chris’ father turn to cry.” The musical highlight of the performance is when Sandler steps on his overdrive pedal for a 60-second guitar solo beginning at the video’s 2:00-minute mark.Adam Sandler – Chris Farley Tribute – Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh[Video: Netflix]Fans can also click here to revisit another one of Sandler’s more uplifting musical tributes, which took place back in 2015 in celebration of David Letterman’s then-impending retirement from late night television.
YES: Hair Today, Gone TomorrowYou’ve seen them. They shave their face, arms, chest, legs, and parts unknown. They do it in the name of performance, the ease of treating injuries, and just for the look. But is there really any good reason for an athlete of any level to remove all traces of body hair? Even if you’re grizzly-bear hairy, do you really think you will cut any time off your run, bike, or swim?I’ve shaved my body hair regularly for more than twenty years, and I’m convinced there is a substantial performance advantage in shaving. The advantage isn’t so much aerodynamic, though it has been proven to take time off various efforts. Instead, the real performance advantage with shaving smooth has everything to do with giving you a mental boost. The first time you shave and then go fast in air or water, you’ll notice something. You don’t feel any resistance at all. Your body becomes a knife. Hair on your body slows you down because you can feel the amount of wind or water you’re pushing out of the way. I notice it most when I’m swimming. After I shave, I slip through the water like a glass spear. When I can’t feel the water, I don’t feel how fast I’m going. That means I can push even harder because there is no mental limit being reached. The negative feedback doesn’t trigger my mind to ease off. I can go considerably faster because I can feel the water better without the distraction of thousands of tiny hairs giving me unnecessary biofeedback.Want a couple more good reasons to shave down?Remove the rug, and your skin will feel cooler during exercise. Without hair, it is also easier to treat cuts and scrapes. Most cyclists cite this as the reason they shave. It is easier to apply and remove adhesive bandages and keep skin clean and free from infection after injuries. If you are serious about competition, with yourself or others, shave once and see how you feel. If you don’t dig it, your hair will grow back in a month or two. But I’ll bet you’re going to like the feeling, and I know you’ll love the results.–Vern Lovic is a top triathlete and cyclist. NO: A Shave Like Any OtherAs a consultant to professional endurance athletes, I get asked all manner of things. Including, strange as it may seem, looking into the research on performance benefits of shaving body hair. Beyond psychologically induced gains (placebo effect), there is little to no legitimate evidence that shaving results in any meaningful performance gains. And, even the few studies showing ever-so-miniscule gains are debatable due to potential placebo effects and research bias influence. The only population that may have a somewhat valid argument would be very hairy long-distance, non-wetsuit wearing swimmers with excellent swim technique. That likely limits the number of people who could truly see performance gains from shaving to a very, very small percentage of the athletes.Let’s take a closer look at a few of the most common rationalizations for shaving. It makes me faster. In cycling, 90% of your effort is simply fighting wind resistance. Therefore, it would make sense that any additional wind resistance would help, right? To date, this claim is unsupported by legitimate research. The truth appears to be none beyond that it makes you think you’re faster. If there is a true speed benefit, it is ever so tiny. Turns out those little extensions of our body are pretty aerodynamic.I’m less likely to get an infection in my wounds from the crazy riding I do since I’m the Chuck Norris of biking. Somehow, road cyclists and triathletes have turned this into an excuse. Yet, mountain bikers rarely shave. The truth is that you will get an infection whether you have hair or not if you don’t clean out the wound. Cleaning techniques also work on leg and body hair.I don’t want hair follicle infections from my recovery massages. My advice is to not to use this excuse. It just adds more ammo. Now you shave your legs and get lots of massages. My opinion: skip the unfounded “important” reasons to shave and tell the truth…you do it because everyone else does and it accentuates those hard earned calf muscles.–Dr. Garret Rock is an adviser to over 80 of the world’s top professional triathletes, cyclists, and runners. ROUGHING THE PASSER—Trainers tend to Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy after he was hit by Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison in the fourth quarter Dec. 8. McCoy injured his hand and was wobbled by a hit from Harrison during the Steelers’ 14-3 win. Two other Browns sustained concussions in the Browns’ 21st loss in 23 games against their AFC North rival. (AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar) The Steelers barely got past the lowly Cleveland Browns (4-9) 14-3 with their usual great defense and poor offense. They will face the team with the second best record in the NFC, the surprising San Francisco 49ers, 10-3 on Monday Night Football on ESPN.Ben Roethlisberger went to the locker room for X-rays after a second-quarter sack but returned to start the second half. He played through a painful high ankle sprain in the second half to pass for 280 yards and two touchdowns, the last a 79-yard touchdown to Antonio Brown with 2:52 remaining. It was the Steelers eighth win in their last nine games. The Arizona Cardinals handed the San Francisco 49ers their third defeat 21-19 on Sunday, thanks to a strong defense and a spectacular show by Larry Fitzgerald. Backup quarterback John Skelton, filling in for the injured Kevin Kolb, threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns.Former Pitt star Fitzgerald had seven catches for 149 yards, including a 46-yarder for a touchdown and a 53-yarder to set up the go-ahead score. He also had a vicious block that helped free Early Doucet on a 60-yard touchdown reception. He becomes the eighth player in NFL history to top 1,000 yards receiving in six of his first eight seasons.Arizona (6-7) has won five of six after a six-game losing streak left them 1-6.Arizona sacked 49ers quarterback Alex Smith five times. The 49ers were at the Cardinals 4-yard line twice and the 6 once in the second quarter and had to settle for short field goals.Frank Gore rushed for 72 yards on 10 carries for the NFC West champions, who had clinched their division title the previous week. He passed 1,000 yards rushing for the fifth time in his career, but didn’t do much damage after that. The 49ers are in the weakest division in the NFL in the NFC West, being the only team with a winning record and that’s shown when they play winning teams. Even though Smith has had a good season so far they rank 29th in the pass and seventh in the rush behind Gore, who has compiled 1064 yards this season. However, their strength goes against the Steelers strength which is stuffing the run. So if the 49ers are going to be successful against Pittsburgh they will have to throw the ball. Smith has a quarterback rating of 91.5 compared to Roethlisberger’s 95.6 but the biggest difference is that Roethlisberger has two outstanding receivers in speedsters Mike Wallace and Antonio Smith. Wallace has 62 catches for 1034 yards, 8 touchdowns and averages 16.7 yards per catch. Brown has 55 receptions for 925 yards, 2 touchdowns for an average of 16.8 yard per catch. Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis are the 49er’s top receivers, with 55 receptions for 668 yards and 49 receptions for 548 yards and their yards per catch are nowhere close to Wallace and Brown. This should be an easy win for the Steelers if they can mount any kind of an offense, but so far this season the San Francisco defense has kept them in games allowing Smith to be able to do just enough to win against weak opponents. The AFC playoff picture is becoming clearer with only 3 games left. Houston beat the Cincinnati Bengals 21-19 to clinch the AFC South and keep them in first place in the AFC having victories over the other AFC 10-3 teams. New England outlasted the Washington Redskins 34-27 to stay two games ahead of the New York Jets (8-5) who climbed back into the playoff race with a 31-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Baltimore stayed ahead of the Steelers with a 24-10 victory over the winless Indianapolis Colts. And the Steelers continued to be the top wild card with its 14-3 victory over the Browns. The Bengals (7-6) still have an outside chance of making the playoffs, depending on what the Jets do for the remainder of the season. The Steelers became the first team in the AFC to win 10 games but the bad news is that the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and the Houston Texans joined them Sunday, keeping the pressure on Pittsburgh to continue to win to have any chance of a home game during the playoffs.
